1.1 Introduction to Filmmaking

Welcome to the world of environmental filmmaking!

Now, think!

  • Choose an environmental topic to research from one of the seven categories: climate, energy, food, transportation, waste, water, or wildlife.

  • Did you identify an environmental problem?

1.2 Sample Film

Leading by example. See behind the scenes.

Now, think!

  • This film was about a problem with food, waste, water, and wildlife combined. It’s OK to identify a problem with more than one category.

  • What environmental problem did you choose to focus on?

1.3 Genre, Tone, & Three-Act Structure

Imagine & Analyze your story.

Now, think!

  • What genre will you choose to convey your message: documentary, narrative, news report, commercial, public service announcement, music video, or other?

  • What tone will your story have: dramatic, silly, awkward, etc.?

  • What solutions can you present or propose for your environmental problem?
